Dear Members of the Reunion Committee:
Thank you so very much for having invited my wife and me to join you last
evening as you celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of your graduation from
St. Pius X Prep Seminary. We had a delightful time in your company, and
I returned home confirmed in the belief that my sixteen years at that
wonderful school have been among the best and most important of my life.
Clearly, the ties created when you were in high school have grown stronger
over the years to an extent that I have not witnessed in any other community
of alumni. At the lovely reception it was evident that you enjoy one
another's company even now just as you did thirty years ago. But just as
strikingly, the inclusion of Mass as a centrally important part of your
reunion plans, along with your ongoing identity as men defined by
devotion to the Church, embodies even now the unique gift Pius X has
given to all of us.
Personally, I was delighted last evening to see Msgr. Guarino, Fr. Hurley,
Mr. Dooley and Mr. Woodbury, all of whom have remained so devoted to the Pius
X family and legacy. I was also deeply moved by the warm way in
which so many of you greeted me and thanked me for what I had done as your
teacher and administrator. Believe me when I say that it was all a labor
of love, and that such love goes on long after the labor has ended.
Again, thank you.

Dear John, Gerry, Guy, Steve, Billy and all who organized the recent
reunion for the class of '77 and other Pius X alumni,
It was a great evening! I was honored to celebrate the Mass and deeply
touched by the opportunity to see so many of you once again. The videos
and the "Jeopardy" contest were especially fun and made me very
nostalgic for a time that will always be a graced five years of my priesthood.
You are all great men of faith and that was what Pius X was all about!
God bless you all and, God willing, I hope to see you all again next time.
Fondly,
Monsignor Guarino

Hello folks,
I am not one for sappy sentimentalism, but I
wanted to make sure that the weekend did not go by without thanking each of
you for the great time I had at last night's reunion.
I cannot adequately express the sheer joy I
experienced in seeing and speaking with you all again.
It has been much too long a time.
Pius guys tend to be a close knit group in
general but, ever since it first took form in the autumn of 1973, the Class
of '77 has enjoyed a special reputation for being "tight", and
this reputation can only be enhanced by this weekend's proceedings.
Good food, good drink (thanks, Guy!), and good company are always a
winning combination.
To people looking in from the outside -- those
outside the "club" -- I suppose this enduring bond must be damned
near inexplicable. God only knows, I'd be very hard pressed to account for
it myself. If one considers the
question in the cool light of logic, there is no earthly reason why such an
eclectic assemblage of personalities should or could hang together year
after year, decade after decade. And
this is before one factors in the
quirks (and let's face it guys, we've cornered the quirk market).
But hang together we do, to everyone's benefit.
Of course, the Reunion Committee and the
Association's officers deserve special recognition for the hours of work
that they put into making this year's event happen.
They know who they are and so do you.
Do the right thing -- when you get a free minute, drop 'em a line and
let them know how much you appreciate their efforts.
Last night, I had the opportunity to rekindle
the flame of friendship with a very special group of men.
I look forward to basking in its warm glow for many years to come.
All the best,
Chris Murphy

Chris,
Thanks for the heartfelt email.
Our lives are so busy and the time passes by all too quickly. We
take time for granted when we are young. We never truly
appreciate that time until it is gone.
Our experiences at Pius helped us to become the people we
are. Although it seems that setting aside one night a year to
reflect back on something we experienced 30 years ago might not be
near enough, it serves to keep the memories alive and the flames in
our hearts burning. The simple acceptance of each other as
we are speaks of the unconditional love we share among our
group.
Whenever I run into fellow Pius alumni, it is as if I am running
into dear brothers. And although we may not have seen each
other in years, I feel as close with them as if I had seen them every
day of the last 30 years.
It is truly something that anyone else who did not experience Pius
would fail to understand. We are truly blessed and I continue to
be extremely honored to be a part of this group!

Jerry,
Thank you for coordinating and presenting the event tonight. I
had not been back to the school since I graduated in '82. I was
disappointed in that only five of us showed but I did still have a
great time.
I flew in from Pittsburgh and stayed at the Hampton that was
recommended and it worked out well.
Thanks again,
Tom
