October 3, 2008 Reunion
Thanks to the over 50 alumni and guests who were
able to attend the October 3rd reception at The Players Club in
Manhattan, with acknowledgment to those who arrived from out of state: James
Casey '70 from Maryland, Bob Hildebrand '68 from Florida, Dennis Ford '76 from
Maine, Steve Wallace '75 from Virginia, and Tom Darcy '75 and his wife Terri
from Wisconsin.
Honorable mention goes to Dennis Tompkins
from Upstate New York, Jim and Mary Beth Barrett from Connecticut, Scooter
and Susan Allen from New Jersey, and Jerry and Fran Galligan from
Philadelphia, PA.
Special thanks to MR alumna Sue Ryan Morse who
provided all the photos from the reunion and to SHA alumna Tricia Ryan Lige
who posted the photos and maintains the alumni association website.

Ed Lowe Life Benefit
Ed Lowe, who attended Pius, has
been fighting his way back from a stroke. The ex-Newsday columnist
has given his time and humor to community groups over the
years. On June 24, Ed's friends and fans gathered
at Mulcahy's in Wantagh for a casual help-with-the-bills fundraiser. The event
was hosted by Ed Ryan '80 and featured Jim Small '74 and his band.
Several Pius alumni were spotted in the large crowd including Frank
McQuade '72, Dave Flatley '75, John Plass '75, Jack Coyne '75, Bob

New Deacons
Congratulations to Ray D'Alessio
Class of '77 and John Rieger Class of '78 who, after
completing five years of theological study,were ordained to the
permanemt diaconate on May 17, 2008 at St Agnes Cathedral in Rockville
Centre.

Directors/Officers
Jim Barrett '75 asked to step down from the Board and
at the March meeting Bob McGill '75 was selected to complete
Jim's term. Thank you to Jim Barrett, who as one of the founding
Directors, dedicated his time and effort to take the Association
a long way in a short time.
After
a great job last year, Jerry Galligan '77 was voted
to repeat a term as our Association's President. The other
2008 officers are Bob McGill '75 -VP, Tom
Grech '80 - Treasurer, and John Ryan '75 -
Secretary. The Nominating Committee is considering filling
the one vacancy.
2007 Membership Drive
As
a result of the membership drive at 2007 year end, our contact list now
totals nearly 300 alumni. Thank
you to all who have asked to be added to our contact list and
contributed annual dues, and additional thanks to those who generously
donated in excess. The Association
account is approaching $4,000 raised to date that will be used as seed
funds to facilitate reunions and other alumni events.
Special
acknowledgment is given to the Donnelly family who made a
generous donation to the St Pius X Alumni Association in memory of their
son and our fellow alumnus Kevin, Class of 1976.
